Miss Nevada USA 2010 Pageant
As you know, I was crowned Miss United States 2008 last summer. A long journey from the days of forcing my little brother into dresses to play pageant and my wardrobe solely consisted of Shaquille O’Neal’s newest basketball shoes, and a myriad of matching Nike basketball shorts and shirts. A little less than a month ago, I crowned my successor and have reflected on my past year. My experience wearing the Miss United States crown was truly a blessing. Many opportunities, planned and unplanned have allowed me to not only improve personally and professionally, but my community in a larger social context. With the conclusion of my Miss United States reign, many might call it the end, but to me it’s only the beginning. Now I am working toward my next goal. In just a few short months, I will represent Las Vegas,and for the last time (because I am getting so old) to compete for the title of Miss Nevada USA 2010!
My platform, my life mission, and also the basis for the creation of my organization B.YOUtiful, in which through workshops and programs that I create and organize, B.YOUtiful shows young women the importance of and how to B.Real, B.FabYOUlous, and just work what your mama gave YOU! Body image and self-esteem, the premise of my platform/organization, what kept me from pursuing this seemingly intangible endeavor for 20 years, now it is the very thing that pushes me to continue with the momentum that I have created, building upon, rather than being complacent in my previous accomplishments, to not only achieve my personal goals, but continue to illustrate to young women in Nevada and the country what the true definition of B.YOUtiful really means.
While I attained many goals on my very ambitious list of expectations for myself over the past year, there are a few others that remain. To some that could be frustrating, but instead, I am excited and ready because I realize if not for that, I may not take advantage of another life changing opportunity and to pick up where I left off to go even further. With that, I am going for it for the very last time. On November 7th at the College of Southern Nevada, I am going to compete for the title of Miss Nevada USA, preliminary to the Miss USA pageant. With your help, I can prepare to win the Miss Nevada USA title and you can see me represent Nevada on NBC in April.
